Project acronym: FIT
Project title: Fiber Integrated Termination
Project duration: 01.10.2011 to 30.09.2013
Coordinator: Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institute
Scientific representative of the coordinator: Dr. Anagnostis Paraskevopoulos

Executive summary

The FIT project “Fiber Integrated Termination”, had as overall objective the development of a range of innovative optoelectronic technologies, which are crucial for the implementation of high bit rate optical networks. The main focus of FIT laid in the development of gigabit passive optical network (GPON) and all optical network (AON) configurable optical networks. Those innovative systems are mainly used in the fiber to the home (FTTH) or fiber to the basement (FTTB) areas and cater to conform to the immense broadband needs from internet applications like HDTV steaming or cloud computing.
A project consortium out of six Austrian and German companies therefore succeeded in working together in one of the most promising ICT markets with a potential overall growth of 41 % (CAGR).
